Why Are You Paying for What Is Free?

Recently, I was having breakfast with my brother at a hotel. Breakfast was included with our reservation and had already been paid for when we booked our stay.

My brother went and filled his plate with what was available to everyone. However, there was another section of the restaurant where a chef would prepare a customized breakfast made specifically for you.

I had been to this hotel before. He had not.

When I came downstairs and he saw me ordering a custom breakfast, he looked at me and asked, “You had to pay for that?”

I replied, “No. It’s already paid for. It came with the reservation.”

His eyes widened.

“Wow, I didn’t know that.”

Immediately, he got in line and began placing his own customized order.

In that moment, the Lord spoke to me.

The Lord began to show me that many believers have access to far more in Christ than they realize.

The custom breakfast was available the entire time. It was included in the reservation. It had already been paid for. The only thing missing was the awareness that it belonged to him.

How often do we do the same thing spiritually?

Through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, an incredible inheritance has been made available to every believer.

Yet many are still striving for things that Christ has already purchased.

Healing has already been paid for.

Deliverance has already been paid for.

Peace has already been paid for.

Joy has already been paid for.

Freedom has already been paid for.

Access to God has already been paid for.

Victory has already been paid for.

The Apostle Paul prayed that believers would come into the knowledge of what already belonged to them:

“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.” (Ephesians 1:18 KJV)

Notice that Paul did not pray that God would give them an inheritance. He prayed that they would understand the inheritance they already possessed.

Many times the issue is not God’s willingness to provide.

The issue is our awareness of what has already been provided.

Scripture tells us:

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.” (2 Peter 1:3 KJV)

Not that He will give.

Not that He might give.

He hath given.

The provision has already been made.

Isaiah prophesied concerning Jesus:

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows.” (Isaiah 53:4 KJV)

And:

“With his stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5 KJV)

Jesus Himself declared from the cross:

“It is finished.” (John 19:30 KJV)

The work was completed.

The price was paid.

The provision was secured.

Many believers spend years trying to earn through effort what can only be received through faith.

We cannot purchase what Christ has already purchased.

We cannot add to a finished work.

We simply receive what has been freely provided through grace.

The moment my brother learned the custom breakfast was included, his response changed. He stopped walking past what belonged to him and stepped into it.

In the same way, when believers begin to understand their inheritance in Christ, they stop living beneath what God has provided and begin walking in the fullness of His promises.

The table has already been prepared.

The invitation has already been extended.

The price has already been paid.

The question is not whether God has provided it.

The question is whether we will receive it.

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” (Psalm 103:2 KJV)

Do not forget His benefits.

Remember what Christ purchased.

Walk in what grace has provided.

It has already been paid for.
